Nimble Arts offers technique, creativity and teacher training workshops at colleges, circus schools, dance companies and circuses around the world. Founders Elsie Smith & Serenity Smith Forchion aim to improve the opportunities for creative movers and the teachers who elevate them. Elsie and Serenity are recipients of international awards for their work, including most recently the Vermont Governor’s hand picked Walter Cerf Excellence in the Arts Award and the American Circus Educators Excellence in Education Award. PREREQUISITE: Introduction to Teaching Aerials workshop

This course will guide you though the curriculum created by Nimble Arts™ to provide clear and effective progressions and spotting techniques for beginner and continuing aerial fabric students. Working with skills that can be executed close to the ground, focus is on body awareness, fabric placement, spotting techniques and meeting the conditioning needs of novice and improver students. We will discuss tools for training ‘fabric brain’ and the physical growth to move to beginning drops and more complex choreographies as well as options for creativity.

Additional Prerequisites: Be comfortable executing, without prompting, skills from Nimble Arts™ DVD: Aerial Fabric Beginning Level 2 (available online at Aerial Fabric Instructional DVDs ) including cross back straddle, and be comfortable inverting off the ground. PREREQUISITE: Foundation Level Teacher Training: Aerial Fabric

In this course you will learn how to safely spot drops and teach complex sequences using elements of Fabric Theory™ with a curriculum created by Nimble Arts™. We’ll also spend time on creative choreography to help keep you and your students inspired while moving at a pace that allows their bodies to develop to the level of physicality necessary for safe fabric training.

Additional Prerequisites: Must have a regular teaching practice, and be comfortable executing, without prompting and on both sides, without extensive review, a broad range of intermediate level skills and some advanced skills including opposite side dive (aka flippy/diaper/salto), double star drop, unlocked 360, cross back straddle (including choreographic variations such as Georgia twist), double crochet/double crucifix drops such as tic tock, front balance knee drop, and basic locked “sit” drops such as figure 8 series and hip key roll around. This workshop will guide you though the curriculum created by Nimble Arts™ to provide clear and effective progressions and spotting techniques for beginner & improving lyra/hoop students. We'll focus on body mechanics, conditioning & stretching techniques while creating a foundation of body awareness and safety. Participants will learn new 'tricks' while gaining deeper ability to read how the body moves and the how and why of what makes skills work. We'll explore adaptations for strength and movement capacity to bring success to your student's experience as well as tools for creativity.

This is a 5 day overview to the art of teaching trapeze and aerial fabric, with a focus on spotting techniques, injury prevention, psychology of teaching, basic rigging concepts and class management. This in depth and holistic approach to teaching is appropriate for new teachers and those with experience, and for those who work with youth or adults in a variety of educational environments including circus schools, gymnastics programs, summer camps, fitness studios and more.
